Benefits of Natural Gas

Gas pool and fire-pit and lightingNatural gas appliances offer amenities for residential homes.  Consumers want the benefits that natural gas appliances can provide: an endless supply of hot water, precision cooking on ranges and outdoor grills, plus warm, cozy homes and swimming pools when it’s cold outside. Natural gas makes it all possible. When architects or builders make the decision to build with natural gas, they build comfort, convenience, and energy savings into another Florida home.

Natural gas provides industries and businesses with multiple solutions. Industries can help protect Florida’s environment by using clean-burning natural gas. By using an energy-efficient fuel, businesses help their bottom line and add to Florida’s economic success. The hospitality industry, in particular, relies heavily on natural gas, so hotels and restaurants can efficiently serve the many visitors to our state.

Major hospitals exclusively use natural gas for back up generators as it is the only truly reliable source for energy. Natural gas is clean, cost-effective and reliable as an energy source.  Other benefits include:

Gas PlantNatural gas is a highly reliable North American energy source Over 97% of the natural gas currently used in the United States is produced right here on North American soil. The Eastern Gulf of Mexico and the entire Atlantic and Pacific Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) are estimated to contain about 300 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas. With the hopeful exploration of the Gulf of Mexico, the domestic supply is expected to increase by 5.8 Tcf.

Unlike foreign oil, the American Gas Association, estimates that natural gas is delivered to more than 56 million homes, businesses, and industries in the United States. 84% of this natural gas is domestically produced and 13% comes from Canada. The remaining amount is transported from foreign sources as LNG. Continuing production within U.S. borders supports our own stability and relieves our dependence on foreign sources.

Increased energy efficiency fits customers to a TEE.  Natural gas is an end-use fuel particularly suited for heat-intensive applications and is considered more efficient than using electricity since another energy source such as gas, coal or oil must be used to create electric power.energy efficiency

Total Energy Efficiency (TEE) provides an accurate measure of energy efficiency. It refers to full life-cycle energy analysis. 70% of the total energy used in generating and transmitting electricity is lost by the time the consumer gets it. By comparison, natural gas only loses 10% throughout the life cycle.

Improved energy efficiency results in improved savings for customers.  Natural gas appliances not only help customers do their part in conserving energy, but they also reduce costs. Heating water with natural gas can be up to 50% more efficient than other fuels. Whether traditional appliances such as furnaces, water heaters and dryers used by homeowners and Florida’s restaurant/lodging industry, or the heat-intensive efficiencies natural gas provides manufacturers, using natural gas results in saving money.

Burns cleaner than petroleum-based fuels When burned, Natural gas releases fewer sulfur emissions, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide and particulate emissions than petroleum or coal. Because this energy source is lighter than air, there is no solid waste, and leaks dissipate without causing any spillage. Simply put, natural gas is an environmentally friendly energy source.

Natural gas eases numerous environmental concerns because natural gas is an alternative energy source that respects the environment. Due to its simple molecular structure, burning natural gas emits less harmful chemicals associated with acid rain, smog and greenhouse emissions. It also releases less particular waste that can cause illness, thereby promoting a healthier environment
